In Blaue Küste (Blue Coast), Baselitz continues his exploration of inversion and liminality. The icy blue palette and dense brushwork form an ambiguous horizon where figure and ground intermingle. The “coast” here is not a literal landscape but a threshold between space and consciousness. By turning the image upside down and dislocating its orientation, Baselitz transforms the act of seeing into a state of uncertainty—inviting the viewer to re-negotiate the balance between form, vision and being.
