Still Life with Curtain at an Open Window (1982) constructs an interwoven interior–exterior space through fractured geometric forms and a dense range of blues. The curtain functions as a metaphorical boundary, placing “an interior still life” against “an exterior landscape” and blurring the line between reality and symbolism. In this work, Lüpertz reinterprets the traditional still-life genre through an expressionist lens; the rhythm and weight of his brushwork generate both material tension and a sculptural sense of structure. Hovering between light and form, the painting embodies a visual poetics that turns space itself into a site of mediation.
