o.t. (2015) was created during Cahn’s series addressing refugees and war, and it continues her approach to “witness-like painting.” The blurred bodies emerge at the threshold between darkness and light, as if struggling to surface from memory. The stance and posture of the three figures produce a stark emotional tension that embodies both violence and vulnerability. Rendered with soft, almost tender brushwork, the work treats a brutal subject through a restrained visual language, turning the act of looking into an ethical encounter—one in which the viewer is compelled to confront the suffering of others alongside their own emotional response.
