Neo Rauch
Neo Rauch (b. 1960, Leipzig, Germany) is a leading figure in contemporary figurative painting and a central representative of the “New Leipzig School.” Merging realist and surrealist vocabularies, Rauch constructs dreamlike narratives marked by symbolic density and psychological tension. Educated and later teaching at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig, he developed a distinctive aesthetic shaped by East German socialist realism as well as postmodern strategies. His paintings feature enigmatic figures suspended in spatial and temporal disjunctions, creating allegorical scenes that intertwine personal subconscious, social metaphor, and historical residue.
