Work Description
In Untitled (2023), Whiteread continues her investigation into light, material, and absence. Crafted from papier-mâché and silver leaf mounted on wood, the work hovers between painting and relief, its ridged surface catching and diffusing light like frozen breath. While her earlier casts monumentalized domestic voids, here the void is rendered fragile, reflective, and intimate. The silvered strata evoke both architectural structure and geological time—an archaeology of light and silence. Through minimal means, Whiteread transforms absence into quiet presence, reaffirming her lifelong project of making the invisible tangible.
